Absolut Mode Nights - Greek Fashion Designers Project: Stelios Koudounaris

Thursday night, ABSOLUT Vodka in conjuction with three Greek fashion designers, Stelios Koudounaris, Sotiris Georgiou and Digitaria, presented a fashion event at Dream City club in Athens. The occasion being the launch of ABSOLUT's limited edition bottle "Absolut Mode", the three designers presented parts of their collections through the reflections of Absolut Mode. It was a multimedia fashion performance, staged by Memi Koupa under the DJ's Apostolos Mitropoulos chosen tunes.

Due to picture overload, I've split the post in two parts. 

I will start by Stelios Koudounaris collection, which impressed me once again. I loved all the dresses and the way they were presented. The models started with the usual walk down the runway (but in a rather fast pace) and at the end they all appeared wearing the beautiful maxi see-through dress and carrying roughly-cut mirrors in their hands, which they waved in front of all of us. It was very impressive as the mirrors reflected the spot lights and various images from the audience and the models.

Punk chic!

Sometimes I’m in the mood for an edgy outfit and make up look, so last night I wore my new leather-look leggings and I added a lace blazer to create a punk-chic outfit. Make up wise, I just did a very dramatic and intense cat-eye which adds a little oomph to the whole look. And I think that a bright, almost neon, pink lipstick is the perfect combo with the black eyeliner. Not to mention a big hit this spring...

The midi trend - 1940’s inspired!

This winter there were lots of maxi dresses and skirts, a trend that will continue for some time as it seems. But another style was also shown in many spring collections (as well as in FW 2011-12 runway shows): the midi length. We saw the form fitting midi skirts inspired from the 40’s, the flared style inspired from the 50’s and also the more bohemian 70’s style skirts.
Although many women fear that the midi can be unflattering, I believe that when styled properly and with the right pair of shoes, it can look very chic and feminine.
I rediscovered this 40’s style dress in my closet and I’m happy that I can finally start wearing it again. And I love the fact that it can be worn in many ways and it can also double as a light coat!

Maxi-mum potential!

I bought this maxi skirt a while ago and haven’t worn it since, don’t know why! I discovered it’s very versatile and can be worn in a number of ways and seasons. I think I’ll enjoy it a lot this spring! It has the right amount of elasticity so you don’t have to walk like a geisha and it’s very slimming (although bold or animal prints usually aren’t).
Today I had planned a few things but unfortunately nothing worked out. It doesn’t matter though because I took the time to gather a few of my make up looks (from the blog) and make a video for my youtube channel. You can see the video HERE

Missed a day!

I am a bad bad blogger and I missed a day. But I have a perfectly good excuse: I’ve been kidnaped by aliens! Hahaha, of course I’m joking. I visited some very good friends of mine and we had such a lovely time that they didn’t want to let me leave, so I stayed over. We played Wii, we saw Avatar (which to my shame I admit not having seen up until last night), we ate loads and had lots of fun. I came back only a couple of hours ago, so that left me no time to post twice today as I ought to, so I’ll do that tomorrow.

The fortuneteller!

I went for a coffee with some friends at our usual place and it was nice. We talked about our plans for the (near) future, some projects that we have going on and the financial difficulties that lie ahead of us. Unfortunately this a topic that cannot be omitted from our conversations because the situation is tough. All the prices are up, the wages are lower than ever and people are getting fired every day. But, this is our reality and we have to deal with it.
The cafeteria has a beautiful Christmas decoration outside and there are some big colored lights on the ground that reminded me of crystal balls. So, I posed as a fortuneteller, although I couldn’t really “see” anything, hehe!

Staying in!

Busy day today and although I have a party invitation for tonight I don’t think I’m going to make it. I think I’m turning into a couch potato lately (or just plain potato, haha)!
Last night I saw a magnificent movie, Changeling with Angelina Jolie. You know I love the 20’s, so I admired her style and beauty, as well as the photography and costumes. I’ve been obsessed with that era lately, having also watched the “Boardwalk Empire” which was a TV series for HBO, directed by the great Martin Scorsese. I’d give anything to do the make up for a similar movie or TV show!

In the spirit of Christmas!

I was inspired by the Ralph Lauren Rugby collection to put together this outfit. I wanted to wear one of my new Tally Weijl knits and this was the perfect way. You can see the collection here.
Also, lovely Artemis (from Beauty with Artemi) asked me to do a bright lips look, so that’s what I did. I kept the rest of the face almost nude this time. Hope you like it honey, although the photos don’t do justice to that super bright fuscia lipstick!

Now, on to xmas baking:
For me, there’s no Christmas without baking traditional desserts and decorating the house. My house is too small for a tree (I like huge trees so no luck!) and I just put a few ornaments here and there to decorate it. But every year I bake the following traditional Greek desserts: melomakarona, kourampiedes and vasilopita. This year I decided against making the second (kourampiedes), because it’s extremely fattening and I don’t really like it anyway. So today it was melomakarona day! I don’t know if any of you non-greeks have ever tasted them, but I can assure you they are delicious! And I like the fact that there isn’t any butter or eggs in the recipe.

After baking them, they have to be left to cool and then be dipped into honey sirup (which is hot):


After “bathing” in honey sirup, they’re sprinkled with walnuts and served:


They're so yummy and I couldn't resist nibbling while placing them on the plate!
